Evidence and Research in Rectal Cancer, 10 – 12 May 2009, Rome

Jointly organised by the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), this teaching course aims at promoting an integrated approach between all specialists involved in rectal cancer to tailor the best treatment for each individual patient.

With a combination of lectures, case discussions in small groups and debates, the course will offer a truly multidisciplinary programme, focusing on the advantages of the different treatments for the different presentations of rectal cancer (evidence) and ongoing and future research in rectal cancer.

Flims Workshop, 20 - 26 June 2009, Switzerland

The European Society of Surgical Oncology is supporting the 11th joint ECCO-AACR-ASCO Workshop on "Methods in Clinical Cancer Research" with 5 fellowships.

This renowned workshop aims at introducing junior clinical oncologists in any oncology subspecialty to the principles of good clinical trial design and to give them the opportunity to develop a protocol through extensive mentoring.

Interested young surgeons must submit their applications
online by 13 February in order to be considered.

Multidisciplinary Treatment of Breast Cancer
2-4 April 2009, Lisbon

Organised in association with ESSO, the first ESTRO advanced course on the multidisciplinary treatment of breast cancer aims at promoting an integrated approach to the management of breast cancer. The goal is to individualise the treatment approach based on the clinical presentation, prognostic (tumour) factors and patient-related issues.

The course will be very interactive through the integration of lectures, debates and case discussions and definitely multidisciplinary with a programme outlining the different treatments for breast cancer from evidence based medicine to the on-going research. The faculty includes a broad sample of the specialities involved in the management of breast cancer.

The European Society of Surgical Oncology invites the surgical oncology community to contribute to the scientific programme of the major European multidisciplinary congress in oncology, the joint ECCO 15 – 34th ESMO Multidisciplinary Congress, which will take place in Berlin from 20 to 24th September 2009.
