EBSQ examination, 23-24 September 2009, Berlin
The European Society of Surgical Oncology and the European Board of Surgery of the UEMS will organise an examination in surgical oncology in conjunction with the ECCO 15-ESMO 34 Congress.
Open to surgeons trained in Europe, the examination aims at certifying the level of up-to-date knowledge, skills, and general competence necessary for the optimal treatment of a cancer patient.

Interdisciplinary Treatment of Lung Cancer 17 – 19 September 2009, Berlin, Germany
The ESSO advanced course on Interdisciplinary Treatment of Lung Cancer will precede immediately the ECCO 15 – ESMO 34 Congress. Aimed at providing the necessary tools to make evidence based clinical decisions for the treatment of patients with lung cancer this two and a half day course will offer a multidisciplinary programme combining both practical aspects and theoretical problems. Live sessions will connect the audience directly to the surgical theatre as well as interventional treatment rooms. Interactive discussion will be facilitated at all times and ward rounds will be undertaken in small groups in order to discuss the peri-operative management of lung cancer patients.
The course is open to all doctors with an interest in the management of lung cancer. Attendance is per competitive application. The 30 selected participants will receive free registration and free accommodation.

Joint ECCO 15 – 34th ESMO Multidisciplinary Congress 20 – 24 September 2009, Berlin, Germany
The scientific programme of the ECCO 15-ESMO 34 Congress will feature an exciting surgical oncology track running throughout the four conference days. One of the highlights will be the ESSO award session on the management of patients presenting with stage IV colorectal cancer. With the participation of speakers from different disciplines, a multimodal approach will be presented towards an optimal treatment strategy. On this occasion the ESSO award will be conferred to Professor Theo Wiggers.
