ESSO appoints an Executive Director
The European Society of Surgical Oncology recently appointed Tatjana Romanyk (NL), PharmD, MBA, to the position of Executive Director. Tatjana started her career in the pharmaceutical industry. She worked in different roles for approx. 14 years: as responsible for clinical research, regulatory affairs, business unit director within oncology, associate director oncology Europe responsible for the strategic marketing of the entire oncology portfolio in Eastern and Western Europe. Beginning 2004 she established TRM-Oncology, a specialized agency based in The Hague providing strategic oncology communication services in oncology, haematology and supportive care to a variety of (inter)national clients. Tatjana will pursue these activities along with her new responsibilities of ESSO Executive Director. With the global team of TRM-Oncology she will assist the society in achieving its strategic objectives. This appointment comes in line with the strategic development of ESSO decided by the Executive Committee in April 2009. Positioning the society as the representative of all oncology surgeons, increasing the membership, enhancing communication and sponsorship opportunities, addressing young cancer surgeons expectations are some of the goals the Executive Director will focus on in the coming months with the support of the ESSO Executive Committee and the ESSO administrator.

ESSO training fellowships
ESSO fellowship scheme is designed for young surgeons under 40 willing to visit a European institution or cancer centre for a period from 1 to 12 months with a view to expand their clinical and research experience and learn new techniques. The standard grant amounts to 2.500 EUR. Fellowships are competitive and applications must be submitted before 31st August.
