ESSO Advanced Course on the Management of Peritoneal Surface Malignancy 27-29 November 2011, Bergamo, Italy

Designed for residents or established surgeons, gynecologists and medical oncologists, this 2-day advanced course will provide, through lectures and video transmission, the latest evidence concerning the new approach of PSM in a multidisciplinary approach.

The following topics will be addressed: Background Information (anatomy, biology, physiopathology, pathological aspects); Rationale, Pharmacological Aspects and Technique of HIPEC and EPIC; sCT Indications; Disciplines Indirectly Involved (anesthesiology, clinical nutrition, quality of life, nursing); Evidence of Results. Through discussion of clinical cases, decision-making and patient selection will be emphasized.

ESSO Advanced Course on the Management of HIPEC after CRS, 15-17 March 2012, Hamburg, Germany


Building on the success of the 1st edition organised in March 2011, ESSO will organise its second advanced course on HIPEC after Cytoreductive Surgery in March 2012.

The course aims at discussing evidence-based clinical decision-making in the management of primary and secondary peritoneal cancer and will offer a multidisciplinary programme combining practical aspects and theoretical problems.

Technical and clinical approaches will be revisited and updated. Presentations will include the state of the art, latest advancements and some videos with tips and tricks by experts in the field. Development in further direction as minimal invasive approaches in selected cases will be discussed.

Participants will perform cytoreductive surgery in small groups in the wet lab using several new technical devices under supervision by experts. Therefore the workshop is limited to a small number of participants.

European Board of Surgery/ESSO examination


20 passed the examination organised jointly by the European Board of Surgery of the UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) and ESSO on 23rd September in Stockholm: 10 for the general cancer surgery exam and 10 for the breast cancer surgery exam.

The next examination in breast cancer surgery will take place on Tuesday 20th March 2012 in Vienna, in connection with EBCC 8, 21-24 March 2012. Click here for further information and the application procedure. Deadline for submission of applications: 31 December 2011.

The next examination in general cancer surgery will take place in connection with the next ESSO Congress: ESSO 32, Valencia, 19-21 September 2012 (exact date to be announced). Click here for further information and the application procedure. Deadline for submission of applications: 31 May 2012.

Oncovideos


Oncovideos is a series of videos on standard practical procedures related to the various oncology disciplines targeting young oncologists who need practice oriented training.

Four videos are in the area of surgical oncology and have been peer reviewed by ESSO. All videos are accredited by the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE).

Coordinated by ECCO – The European CanCer Organisation, the Oncovideos project has been funded with support from the European Commission and is freely available to all oncology healthcare professionals upon a simple registration process.

Launched in June 2011, the site will be updated on a regular basis so that all videos are made available by end 2011. Click here to view the oncovideos.

ESSO 2012 Membership Renewal


The ESSO membership includes the yearly subscription to EJSO – the Journal of Cancer Surgery and entitles members to a substantial discount on the registration fee for attending the upcoming ESSO congress (19-21 September, Valencia) and the several courses organised by ESSO or in partnership with other discipline- or organ-based societies. It also gives access to the ESSO traineeship scheme and to congress webcasts.

The membership fee remains unchanged (120 EUR for individual members, 60 EUR for junior members and 40 EUR for members from developing countries, countries with a low or low-middle economy as per the classification of the World Bank.
