The ESSO Young Surgeons and Alumni Club (EYSAC) was created during the 2010 ESSO Congress in Bordeaux, on September 17th.
This Club has been created with the goal to help junior surgeons to play an active role in the future of surgical oncology, in a friendly environment. The Club has multiple missions, including:
This Club has been designed as an open space, where people from large horizons can meet and exchange, including former students of ESSO educational events, Flims workshop, fellowships, masterclasses, or advanced courses. Every junior member of ESSO can also join the Club, with a theoretical age limit of 40 year-old. Faculties for all ages are very welcomed to join the Club events and activities. No membership fee is required to join the Club, but ESSO membership is mandatory. Members are invited to actively use this friendly networking opportunity, to provide feedback from educational event, to participate to dedicated events, and to suggest new avenues. Active and motivated people are very welcome to participate to the Club Steering Committee. 1. Networking The Club will develop a directory of members and faculties and a dedicated LinkedIn group. This group will allow sharing opportunities, publishing grants, uploading fellowship positions, and reminding deadlines. The Club will also update its webpage inside ESSO website (www.essoweb.org). As suggested during previous meetings, senior surgeons could be kindly asked to become mentors of young surgical oncologists. Link with other organizations, including ESMO, ESTRO, Flims Alumni club, or American College of Surgeons, will also be developed. 2. Meetings The Club will be involved in multiple steps of ESSO meetings organization, including dates reminder, participation to ESSO abstracts reviewing, dedicated session during ESSO meeting, and a friendly Young Surgeons and Alumni dinner during ESSO meeting. ESSO has been investing generously in many educational events, and would like to see the club involved in subsequent evaluation. Education evaluation will include publication of fellowship reports, pre and post course evaluation, and participation to the EYSAC Annual Survey concerning quality of life and education expectation among surgical oncology residents and fellows. ESSO and the Young Surgeons and Alumni Club hope you will benefit from this initiative to play an active role in the future of surgical oncology, in a friendly environment. Sincerely Yours, Pierre Mordant, MD, MSc Riccardo A. Audisio, MD, FRCS EYSAC Steering Committee
