Webinar on Integrating Prehabilitation and Rehabilitation in The Clinical Path of High-Risk Surgical Oncology Patients
01 June, 2021 - Open
Time: 6pm to 7.20pm CET
Aims of the webinar
Prehabilitation should be offered to patients scheduled for major or complex elective surgery with a view to improving their physical fitness and health status and reducing the risk of peri-operative morbidity and mortality. Priority of referral to preoperative exercise training should go to patients who are at increased risk of perioperative complications. Equally postoperative rehabilitation can be of major importance for the patient’s quality of life and compliance to further therapies.
The aim of this webinar is to provide evidence-based informations on how to deliver pre- and postoperative rehabilitation to patients awaiting major oncologic surgery and how to select surgical patients who may be referred into a rehabilitation service.
A series of best-practice based statements to advise on patient care with respect to exercise training in the peri-operative period has been developed. These statements cover: patient selection for nutritional interventions and exercise training; integration of nutrition counselling and exercise training into multi-modal prehabilitation programmes; and advice on exercise prescription factors and follow-up.
