ESSO Webinar: Prophylactic Peritoneal Management of High-Risk Colon Cancer

03 November, 2020 - Open

Venue: Online

This interactive online meeting will take place on Tuesday 3rd November 2020 at 6.30 pm CEST.

It will be chaired by Dr. Andreas Brandl (Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon, PT) and Dr. Álvaro Arjona-Sánchez (University Hospital Reina Sofía, Córdoba, SP). Invited speakers will be Professor Diane Goéré (Saint-Louis Hospital, Paris, FR) and Professor Pieter Tanis (Amsterdam University Medical Center, Amsterdam, NL).

Patients with T4 or perforated colon cancer are at high risk for peritoneal recurrence. Patients with peritoneal metastasis (PM) or recurrence have a significantly deteriorated oncologic outcome. Detection and evaluation for a multidisciplinary treatment approach including systemic chemotherapy and cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are crucial in these patients, as well as strategies to prevent peritoneal recurrence. In the last 12 months, the results of two important RCTs: PROPHYOLCHIP and COLOPEC have been published, which showed no benefit for systematic 2nd look surgery + HIPEC in patients with PM of colorectal cancer (CRC) neither for adjuvant HIPEC in patients with T4 or perforated tumours.

The aim of this webinar is to summarize these findings, and to integrate them in the present treatment algorithm.
