Ibrahim Edhemovic was born in Zagreb, Croatia, in 1961. He is married and has 2 children. He graduated at School of Medicine Tuzla, University of Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and underwent his surgical residency training in Medical Center Brcko (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and University Hospitals in Zagreb (Croatia) and Ljubljana (Slovenia). After passing the Board Exam in General Surgery in Ljubljana, he completed postgraduate study at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana and received Master's Degree. He also passed EBSQ/WFSOS Exam in Surgical Oncology in Lille, France and was admitted as fellow in surgical oncology at Tom Baker Cancer Center in Calgary, Canada. He is a member of ESSO, SSO and UICC. Currently, he works at the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Institute of Oncology Ljubljana in Slovenia and is President of Slovenian Section of Surgical Oncology.
Dr. Edhemovic is primarily focused on the treatment of colorectal cancer, large primary and recurrent pelvic tumors, endoscopic procedures as well as on the breast cancer. His teaching activities comprise organization of workshops on rectal cancer surgery and conducting practical training for medical students. In his earlier research activities, he worked on the analysis of phospholipase A2 in colorectal tumors and sentinel nodes in breast cancer. Currently, his research activities are focused on the projects concerning the improvement of surgical technique and quality of life after rectal cancer surgery, neoadjuvant treatment of patients with rectal cancer, as well as development of databases and computer network systems for data collecting and quality control.
