The European Society of Oncologic Imaging's (ESOI) first multidisciplinary webinar 22/01/2018
Rectal Cancer: a multidisciplinary approach to imaging
On January 24, 18:00 CET the European Society of Oncologic Imaging (ESOI) will organise its very first multidisciplinary webinar, offered free of charge to anyone interested.
MR Imaging of rectal cancer influences treatment decision and impacts patient’s outcome. It is crucial that radiologists not only understand how to read and interpret images but also know how these findings impact clinical decision making. This ESOI webinar is the first of a series in 2018 to approach imaging from a multidisciplinary view. Attendees will learn about the multidisciplinary team management, the relevant questions from clinicians and how radiologists can answer these. Short lectures will be followed by case based discussions among the teachers and attendees, in this way simulating a multidisciplinary meeting.
The teachers will be a team of surgeon, radiation oncologist and radiologist, experts in rectal cancer management. The radiological view will be presented by ESOI President, Prof. Regina Beets-Tan, who is also the chairwoman of the Radiology Department at the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam. Prof. Beets, Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Medical Director of the Oncology Center, will present the view of a surgeon.
Prof. Geerard Beets is a colorectal surgeon and chairman of the Department of Surgery at The Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam. His research and international track record is in organ preserving treatment of rectal cancer and in this pioneering field he works closely together with teams worldwide including the world renowned team of Prof. Angelita Habr-Gama, Brazil. He chairs the steering committee of the international registry data base of patients treated with organ preservation. He is a member of the ESSO Education & Training Committee and has co-authored several international guidelines on rectal cancer imaging and management.
