MD Anderson Cancer Center International Surgical Oncology Fellowship 2023


The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.

The Surgical Oncology International Fellowship is a one-year surgical fellowship dedicated to the training of international surgeons on the surgical management of solid tumors. The program will enable the fellow to acquire an advanced body of knowledge and increased level of skill in the practice of surgical oncology.

The mission of the fellowship is to train a select group of surgeons in multidisciplinary treatment and surgical techniques for the specialized treatment of these challenging disorders and malignancies. Upon the completion of the Surgical Oncology International Fellowship, it is expected that the international fellow will be positioned for appointment as a faculty member with focused expertise in the practice of surgical oncology.

The fellowship features 10 clinical months with dedication in 1-2 disciplines in either breast, colorectal, sarcoma, melanoma, gastric, HIPEC, melanoma, endocrine or HPB. The applications are open from 1 June to 15 September 2022, with an anticipated start date of August 2023.

To be eligible for this Fellowship and to be able to directly participate in patient care, the candidate must speak fluent English, have completed the equivalent of a residency program in surgery, and passed the United States Medical License Examination (USMLE), Step 1 and 2.

Completion of a surgical residency program comparable to the U.S. accredited surgical residency program

  • A 1-page cover letter explaining your background, goals, and desired curriculum/focus area.

  • A current CV to include prior training and a list of peer-reviewed publications.

  • Proof of eligibility with USMLE score points.

  • A copy of your ECFMG certificate.

  • A sponsor letter from a surgery chair of division head.
