Carmela is originally from Manila, Philippines, a surgeon and researcher advocating for high quality clinical cancer research.
She completed her Medical Degree in 2006, trained as General Surgeon and became a diplomate of the Philippine Board of Surgery in 2013 .
She briefly worked in Singapore General Hospital and then moved to Brussels in 2014 for a surgical quality assurance research fellowship with the European Organization in Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC).
Carmela became a Clinical Research Physician for EORTC Gastrointestinal Cancer and Head and Neck Cancer Group from 2016 - 2018.
Currently, she works as a Medical Advisor for Breast International Group (BIG). She is also coordinating the BIG Asia Collaboration and BIG North American Breast Cancer Group (NABCG) Collaboration.
