Training Pathways - structured journey in surgical oncology

To support professional development and ensure high-quality surgical care, ESSO offers seven structured 2-year organ-specific Training Pathways. Each pathway includes a mandatory course on Basics of Oncology for Surgeons, specialty foundational (Level 1) and advanced (Level 2) courses, complemented by optional webinars on specialty and transversal topics.

What's in it for you?

After completing all mandatory courses (timeline is flexible), candidates may apply for a short-term observership at an ESSO-approved training centre. Upon successful completion of the observership, candidates will be awarded the ESSO Certificate of Competence, recognising their achievement of evidence-based training in their chosen specialty. The pathway concludes with the recommended EBSQ examination.
