Aim of the course
- Understand the pivotal role of surgical oncologists within Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) in modern cancer care, emphasising the collaborative nature of cancer treatment and decision-making
- Comprehend the molecular underpinnings of carcinogenesis and cancer progression, enabling participants to appreciate the biological aspects of cancer and their implications for surgical interventions
- Identify common patterns in cancer progression and patterns of recognition, providing surgical residents and consultants with tools for early diagnosis and tailored treatment planning
- Explore the importance of cancer prevention and screening, with a specific focus on the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, and grasp the significance of early detection in improving patient outcomes
- Discuss the integration of various treatment modalities, such as systemic chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, and local ablation techniques, within a multimodal approach to managing cancer
