Aim of the webinar

This ESSO webinar examines how pCR should be interpreted in luminal breast cancer, where response may not carry the same prognostic and surgical meaning seen in other subtypes. It connects prognosis, pathology, operative decision-making, immunotherapy and de-escalation discussion into one practical clinical narrative. It is suited to surgeons and multidisciplinary professionals involved in breast cancer care.

Objectives

  • compare the prognostic relevance of pCR across breast cancer molecular subtypes, with emphasis on luminal disease
  • interpret the main elements of pathological response assessment after neoadjuvant therapy in luminal breast cancer
  • apply tumour biology and response information to surgical planning and de-escalation discussions

At the end of the webinar, participants will be able to

  • differentiate why pCR cannot be assumed to have equivalent meaning across all breast cancer subtypes
  • correctly identify the pathology factors that inform response evaluation in a luminal breast cancer case after neoadjuvant therapy
  • choose and justify an evidence-aligned surgical recommendation for a luminal breast cancer luminal case
